{"id":8527,"date":"2019-02-14T13:22:01","date_gmt":"2019-02-14T21:22:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cldc.org\/?p=8527"},"modified":"2022-03-28T10:30:00","modified_gmt":"2022-03-28T17:30:00","slug":"announcing-spring-online-course-train-the-trainer-in-know-your-rights-for-the-undocumented-community-bilingual","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cldc.org\/hi\/announcing-spring-online-course-train-the-trainer-in-know-your-rights-for-the-undocumented-community-bilingual\/","title":{"rendered":"Announcing Spring Online Course: Train the Trainer in Know Your Rights for the Undocumented Community (Bilingual)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><strong>CLDC is excited to announce our Spring 2019 online course!<\/strong><\/h5>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><strong class=\"\">WHAT:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">We are offering a <b>Spring<\/b><b class=\"\">\u00a02019 Online Course: Bilingual Train the Trainer in Know Your Rights for the Undocumented Community in Oregon.\u00a0<\/b>This training is 7 weeks long.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div>***Update: We have changed the structure to include a cost for this training. We will be offering the course for $65-150, sliding scale. Scholarships are available upon request.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\" style=\"font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><strong class=\"\">WHEN:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\"><b class=\"\">This training will begin the week of March 11th and wrap up the week of April 22nd. Read below to find out about the time commitment!<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">The training will consist of\u00a0<b class=\"\">one video lesson per week.<\/b>\u00a0There will be homework, an expectation of practice, and weekly group chats, that should in total consist of about 4-6 hours per week. Other than the weekly group chats, all the rest of the work can be done throughout the week, in whatever time you have available to do it. <b>There will be a significant amount of practice on your own expected in order to become a CLDC trainer!<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Graduations from class will be scheduled the week of April 22nd, and can be done via video chat, or in person if you are able to come to Eugene. (Video chat is fine!)<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\" style=\"font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><strong class=\"\">WHO:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">You are an ideal candidate for this training if:<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">&#8211; You are bilingual and very competent in both Spanish and English. The training is long, and contains legal jargon and concepts. Unfortunately at this time we cannot accommodate monolingual Spanish speakers.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">&#8211; You have access to the affected community, and a clear way to reach folks with this information who need it<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">&#8211; You have enough time in your schedule to provide this training regularly (at least 4 times per year)<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">&#8211; You have experience public speaking, or at least a willingness to try and practice!<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">&#8211; You are a self motivated learner who can practice on your own and can get a lot out of an online learning environment<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\" style=\"font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;\">&#8211; You will need regular access to a computer for this training and the ability to video chat<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\" style=\"font-family: AvenirNext-Regular;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\"><strong class=\"\">MORE INFO:<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Know Your Rights for the Undocumented Community is essential information that we as a community need to be sharing as much as possible in these times! We have been training English\/Spanish bilingual trainers in Lane County, and are ready to expand our efforts statewide using the online class format!<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><b class=\"\">The class is 10 weeks long, and covers the following topics:<\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">&#8211; Your constitutional rights and how\/when to assert them (applicable to anyone physically present in this country)<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">&#8211; Interacting with police and how to keep yourself safe and avoid arrest<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">&#8211; Interacting with ICE and how to keep yourself safe and avoid deportation<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">&#8211; Specific issues you might face with ICE: car stops, workplace raids, borders, detention centers<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">&#8211; Other immigration issues this state and country are facing: DACA, Measure 105, U Visa, VAWA, etc.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">By taking this training, you will be trained in depth about these concepts, as well as given the opportunity to practice this training in both Spanish and English. (Note: We know that there are many more languages this training should be given in. At this time, Spanish and English are the only languages we have it translated to, but are open to assistance from folks who want to help translate into other languages!) You will be given detailed powerpoints in both languages that you can use as visual aids, as well as other materials that you can hand out at the trainings you put on.
