Rare Burgundy and Bordeaux Wine Benefit

The Civil Liberties Defense Center will be hosting a wine tasting of some rare Burgundy and Bordeaux wines and we will also be auctioning off several bottles.

Provenance

The wines above were donated by Mr. John Jonna, owner of Vinology and Bird & the Bread restaurants located in the Metro Detroit area. Jonna purchased the wines from a private cellar. They were originally imported and cellared by Mr. W. B. Chase, as indicated on many of the bottles. The wine was only moved twice before being shipped to Oregon by air: from the original cellar in the home of W.B. Chase in Bloomfield Hills, MI to the home of the previous owner—who purchased the home (and cellar) of W.B. Chase in the 1980s—in Plymouth, MI; and from there to Jonna’s cellar in Birmingham, MI. The wines have been carefully stored, as indicated by the impressive ullage levels of the bottles. Pictures of the original cellar can be viewed below.
