SLAPPed for Speaking About Palestine

Recorded on December 19th, 2019. Strategic lawsuits against public participation (or SLAPPs) are a tactic used to intimidate activists, journalists, and community groups who speak out against wrongdoing. Recent years have seen a spike in the use of SLAPPs and related intimidation tactics to stop Americans from engaging in critical debates about Israel and Palestine. In this webinar, learn how SLAPPs and related legal tactics are being used to censor those who advocate for Palestinian rights, and how these activists are reclaiming their rights to protest and free speech. Featuring Lauren Regan, Executive Director of the Civil Liberties Defense Center, Anthony C. Alessandrini, Professor of English at Kingsborough Community College, J. Kēhaulani Kauanui, Professor of American Studies and Affiliate Faculty in Anthropology at Wesleyan University, and Zoha Khalili, Staff Attorney at Palestine Legal.
