Mní Wičóni – Water is Life. #LandBack. Food sovereignty. Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Honor the Treaties. These aren’t just hashtags, slogans, or movements, they’re the battles where Indigenous communities lead the fight for collective survival and a livable future – for us all.

This Monday, October 13^th, marks Indigenous Peoples Day, a day to center the voices, sovereignty, and leadership of those who have defended this land since time immemorial and continue to stand against state violence, corporate greed, and the legacies of colonization.

Tribes and Indigenous communities across the world have long been the leaders in the most critical fights throughout history: protecting water, defending sacred lands, and asserting sovereignty against extractive industries. At Civil Liberties Defense Center, we’ve witnessed this courage firsthand – from Standing Rock water protectors in North Dakota, to Stop Copy City forest defenders in Atlanta, and pipeline resisters in the Pacific Northwest (and nationwide).

CLDC will forever advocate for Tribal sovereignty, and supports the work of many Tribes, Indigenous peoples, communities and groups. As we live and work on stolen land, it is our duty to protect what takes care of us while we are here. We’ve got your back, until all are free!
