Come out and watch a free screening of this amazing documentary “COINTELPRO 101” about the secret and illegal FBI programs spearheaded by J Edgar Hoover that attacked the Puerto Rican Independence movement, Black Liberation movement and many other progressive movements for social change in the 60’s and 70’s. Oregon Jericho will give a presentation about the historical and contemporary manifestations of these programs.

This conference calls for people, movements, organizations and collectives to present alternative accounts to the political dimensions of civic engagement, mutual aid and revolution as they relate to economics, politics, invention, technology, work, artistic and cultural production, the body, pedagogy and social change. The conference promises to create a provocative space for critical dialogue between activists, revolutionaries, educators, artists, musicians, scholars, dancers, actors and writers.

This film has been nominated for an Academy Award for “Documentary Feature,” and it includes interviews with Eugene locals: CLDC attorney Lauren Regan, videographer Tim Lewis, and forest defender Jim Flynn. In a special showing on Sunday, February 19, half of the profits will benefit the Civil Liberties Defense Center. CLDC Executive Director Lauren Regan will be on hand to introduce the film before the screening.

Lauren Regan, executive director of CLDC, will discuss the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and how it has co-opted our democracy and influenced social and environmental movements across America. A trial that began on January 17th came to a close under a unanimous ruling on the 23rd that a Eugene police sergeant used excessive force to arrest an environmental activist who videotaped their confrontation in front of a downtown bank in 2009.… U.S. District Magistrate Judge Thomas Coffin had ruled even before the trial began that the officer had violated Joshua Schlossberg’s rights by viewing the contents of his video camera without first obtaining a warrant. This left the jury to rule only on whether the incident had been one of excessive force and whether or not the officer had acted according to the law in the overall incident.
