On Saturday, Feb. 4 in Tacoma, WA, people will be marching in the support of Leonard Peltier. Peltier, long time Native Activist and member of the American Indian Movement was convicted in 1975 for shooting two FBI officers. Prosecutors have continually stated that they cannot prove Peltier’s guiilt. He has been in prison for 35 years for a crime he did not commit. The events of Feb. 4th are being organized to show that Peltier is not forgotten and that there are many who will not rest until he is free.

A trial that began on January 17th came to a close under a unanimous ruling on the 23rd that a Eugene police sergeant used excessive force to arrest an environmental activist who videotaped their confrontation in front of a downtown bank in 2009.… U.S. District Magistrate Judge Thomas Coffin had ruled even before the trial began that the officer had violated Joshua Schlossberg’s rights by viewing the contents of his video camera without first obtaining a warrant. This left the jury to rule only on whether the incident had been one of excessive force and whether or not the officer had acted according to the law in the overall incident.

This bill was introduced and pushed by big businesses for big businesses. AETA protects the interests of animal enterprises such as the National Pork Producers Association, Pfizer Drug Co. and other pharmaceutical corporations that engage in cruel and unnecessary animal testing, McDonald’s and other fast—food corporations that profit from the sale of factory—farmed animals for food, and Johnson & Johnson, Procter & Gamble and other cosmetic companies that repetitiously abuse animals to test and retest their latest line of beauty products.
